IzPack bittorrent link
IzPack can be downloaded via Bittorrent. I'm trying this for fun in trackerless mode from the betas, I hope that someone will try to download it
IzPack 3.8.0 released
I have released IzPack 3.8.0, which is now available from the BerliOS servers. I have also made two releases of the IzPack native launcher: - 1.3 is a bugfix release of the wxWidgets-based version - 2.0 is a new launcher based on Qt from Trolltech.
Among the many improvements in this long expected release, you will find:
- new compression options (none, gzip/deflate, bzip2)
- a new XHTML documentation
- many look and feel fixes
- a better integration on Mac OS X
- better shortcuts support on FreeDesktop.org-compliant environments
- a refactored compiler
- ... see http://www.izforge.com/izpack/index.php?page=history for the
whole set of changes.
IzPack 3.8.0 is also the first release under the terms of the Apache Software License 2.0. I would like to thank all the developers and contributors. Without them, it would have been nearly impossible to make this release! Thanks to all of you
I hope that you will enjoy this release.
IzPack frontend screenshots
First of all, sorry for not blogging that much these days, but I am very busy with work and planning a flat change. I will become less busy in the next few weeks and I should (finally!) get time to release IzPack 3.8.0, but I prefer to wait a little more and make it in a clean manner.
IzPack used to have a GUI frontend a long time ago, but it was dropped since it became out-of-sync with the features of IzPack. Fortunately, a brave IzPack developer, Andy Gumbos, decided to work on a new frontend. The code is available in the IzPack SVN and starts to become usable. I had a look at it and took some screenshots of the future IzPack frontend. Although there is still some work to be done, Andy deserves to be encouraged to keep up the good work, the result is very promising
Sydney and Ubuntu
Quoted from Mark Shuttleworth FAQ:
Now we are on the naming thing, what's with the "Funky Fairy" naming system?
(...)
Many sensible people have wondered why we chose this naming scheme. It came about as a joke on a ferry between Circular Quay and somewhere else, in Sydney:
lifeless: how long before we make a first release?
sabdfl: it would need to be punchy. six months max.
lifeless: six months! thats not a lot of time for polish.
sabdfl: so we'll have to nickname it the warty warthog release.
For those who don't know Sydney, Circular Quay is the area between the Opera and the Harbour Bridge.
