The IzPack project team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of IzPack version 4.0.0.

This latest stable release is an important milestone in the project as it is the first one that has entirely been developed within the Codehaus infrastructure.

This release is the result of a joint effort between the IzPack developers and external contributors. The complete list of improvements and fixes can be obtained from the release notes.

As the project manager, I would like to warmly thank all of the developers and contributors for making this release possible! You have all done an amazing job!

About IzPack

IzPack is a one-stop solution for packaging, distributing and deploying applications.

It is fully cross-platform and generates a single installer. As such, it is an alternative to native solutions such as platform-specific installers and package managers. IzPack-generated installers only require a Java virtual machine to run.

I didn’t want to blog about my trip to JavaOne until I could cool-off a little bit, so now is time to write some stuff about it.

I spent a great time in San Francisco (first time in the US by the way). JavaOne is a really good conference: great atmosphere, great people, great parties, great everything I definitely recommend it.

The Glassfish unconference was the starting point. I met many people there and discovered how an unconference worked. That was very interesting for me as such freestyle type of meeting is not widespread, especially in the great and noble academia. We then had a Glassfish party with a very good tasting Glassfish Drink.

The next day was CommunityOne, a free conference organized by Sun that grouped many open source communities. CommunityOne is a good event by itself. That was also the occasion for me to talk about IzPack during the Glassfish Lightning Talks session:

I am really pleased of having made this talk, thanks a lot Alexis for arranging that I have given quite a few talks and lectures, but that was actually the first time I spoke about IzPack! Can you believe that?

I experienced the demo effect as my demonstration of installing Glassfish using the IzPack-based installer crashed due to obscure characters that I managed to type in! I don’t recall having seen a trouble-free demo anyway, and there were some more embarrassing crashes than mine

The rest of the time was the regular JavaOne conference. It was big (15.000 attendees!) but very smooth and refreshing, especially as I had only seen academic conferences before. I spent a lot of very good time with people from Sun.

Going to San Francisco was also the occasion to catch up with old-time friend Romain Guy who hasn’t changed a bit I also saw Guillaume again, and we were even in the same plane back to Paris.

I’m pretty sure I forgot to mention this or that as it was a really fast paced week…
